SCORCHED BY DESIRE
Dimitri lives to protect the secret of the Dragon Kings from the human race. But when an oh-so-sexy, slightly absent-minded archaeologist wanders into his midst, Dimitri will have to give up his rules, and give in to desire…
When Dr. Faith Reynolds stumbles upon an ancient skeleton that appears it comes from a dragon, she’s completely taken aback. A woman of science, there’s no way in her mind that this mythological creature can exist. But when a devilishly handsome man named Dimitri intercepts her path to uncovering the truth, Faith’s curiosity turns into all-consuming passion. She’s never felt this way about any man before. But when Dimitri reveals his biggest secret, can she learn to love the man—as well as the dragon within?

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH NET GALLEY. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!
I am a complete newcomer to this author and her works, so I had a bit of a unique approach to this book. However, that was completely marred by the fact that while this was supposed to be a stand alone book, the author had a distinct lack of world-building and boring prose.
The biggest thing I felt was total confusion. I didn’t understand the prologue events, and not much more was made clear as the book went on. The war was likewise not explained well, and thus I got very bored with the entire thing. That left the romance to carry the plot, but the thing was, I felt it couldn’t do it.
While I got that Dmitri was there to protect Faith, I didn’t believe that she truly needed protection, except from herself. She became too absorbed in her work, and it seemed more like a case of Insta-lust, than actually something that a good relationship would be built on. The romance plot also felt a bit rushed to me.
I’ve got another opportunity to see if this author is for me, but I doubt I would continue this particular series.
